These days, many Christian men have actually lost all comprehension of living a life of purity. The word purity is hardly ever used, even in the modern church. Men are continually bombarded with pictures of semi-nude women wherever they turn. From adverts on TV and social networks, to walking through the regional shopping centre, and even taking a stroll on the beach. These continuous images saturate the mind.
Unfortunately, we have actually all been offered a number of lies. Over the years, from boyhood, through teenagerhood, to manhood. We have been drip-fed lies. As we age, we end up being desensitized, and the lies become increasingly more strengthened in our thinking. They are validated by our battles and experiences of the world around us, and as we look at other Christian men, we verify what we now think to be our new truth. What are these lies?
## The Worlds Big Lie vs Gods Standards
The primary lie is that purity is unattainable and out of reach. We think that it might have been obtainable to men of earlier and more conservative generations. Nevertheless, given that the sexual revolution of the 1960’s, any hope of going out a pure life has been rushed.
God sets a very high standard when it comes to sexual purity. No ifs, no however, not even a hint. Has God set the bar too high?
God standard comes from His wisdom. He understands that if we permit even a hint of sexual immorality into our lives, we are opening a door that will be difficult to close.
## The Road To Ruin is Wide and Easy
We make excuses and allow more than a tip. We enable ourselves a few indulgences every now and then. We let our guard down. Just as we delight in percentage of time relaxing, seeing Netflix, consuming chocolate and possibly a red wine with supper. In the same way we allow ourselves extravagances of sexual gratification. We delight in enjoying nudity or sex scene in the most recent block buster movie, a glance at that skimpy jogger as she goes by, or a glimpse at adult images so quickly accessed on our cell phone.
As time passes, and as we continue to permit ourselves these little indulgences, a routine is formed. Our belief system is compromised. Ultimately, we have enabled in even more than a tip of sexual immorality.
For many, a lifelong battle has actually now started in the heart and mind that is not easily gotten rid of.
As sexual sin infiltrates the mind, gradually, it starts to captivate one’s heart.
## Can We Modification and have Breakthrough?
How do men discover development in this location of their lives? The answer is discovered in God’s Word.
In Romans 1, verse 25. There are two parts to this verse.
### Part 1
The very first part says we have ‘exchanged the fact of God for a lie.’ That is, overtime, we have actually developed beliefs and presumptions about God that are wrong. We might feel let down by Him and by others. However these lies penetrate, we begin to act upon these incorrect beliefs.
Regretfully, we began our Christian journey thinking that God is all that we need, and He can be all pleasing. However over time, many completing voices in the world challenged that presumption. It ended up being difficult to let go of whatever the world provides and find real satisfaction in Him. We start to think the lie that we need to look elsewhere for fulfillment.
Breakthrough comes as we turn back to God and think His word. God’s word is reality, and as we push into Him and look for after Him above all else, we begin to think once again that freedom and victory over this sin is possible.
### Part 2
The second part of Romans 1:12 says that we have actually ‘worshiped and served the creature instead of the Creator.’ This is the heart of the issue. Our heart is no longer sold out for God. Rather, it is divided. As we believe the lies that ‘everybody does it, its no big deal, no one can really stroll a pure life,’ we allow in compromise. We are now worshiping God and praise desire at the same time. We are doing what God clearly instructed the Israelites not to do. We are worshiping the idols of the world around us. We are now on a slippery slide far from praise of the true God towards potential damage.
If we are to find development in this area, we need to identify that this is a heart problem. We must be so captivated by God, that we no longer desire sin in our lives. When our heart is sold out for God, we start to dislike sin, we dislike it. Why would we choose sin when our hearts are totally pleased by the almighty God who enjoys us and is there for us, even in our darkest minutes?
## Our Breakthrough Comes Through Jesus Christ
Development includes understanding who we are as believers. We are children of God. This is our position in God and this does not change. All of us have a position in our households. We are daddies, kids, children, and grandchildren. Positionally, we are God’s own boys and children. He enjoys us as His own adopted Kid. We come from Him and He does not stop liking us. Although we betray, He stays devoted. For improvement to occur, we must have a total understanding of who we are as His kids. Our identity, values and purpose are more plainly defined from the position of who we are as kids of God.
His grace is adequate for us, even in our present scenario and struggles (2 Corinthians 12: 9). Jesus overcame sin once for all and he made a means for us to stand immovable and conquer in the middle of trials and temptation (2 Corinthians 10: 13). We should discover our strength in Jesus and if we put the word of God to the test, we will find in it the reality we need to experience liberty and victory so that we can truthfully say ‘I am not permitting even a hint of sexual immorality in my life.’
